Evanston: What You Need to Know

Enjoy the day but please remember to keep a close eye on our furbabies. The intensity of the sounds and noises can provide moments of terror for our family members. Please remember an animals sense of hearing is much more sensitive than us; approximately twice the hearing range and detect sounds 4 times better. Sounds at times can cause physical pain so keep a diligent watch and tuck your fearful pets away where the sounds are muffled and their anxiety lessened. Check on them often and add buffering sounds such as a fan or music. Good luck and may everyone enjoy the day at their pace and leisure. Hope to see you at the parade!!

One in three pets will become lost at some point in their life.

WH_slider-tips-microchipping

A microchip could make the difference between being reunited with your lost pet, or losing them to a system that returns only 22% of lost dogs to their families while 52% of microchipped pets made their way back home.

In today’s busy lives we can never tell what can happen in a blink of an eye. Is your pet covered if they should slip out the door and run? Will they make it back home if a gate is left open by mistake and they wander away? How will animal control or a local citizen unite you with your lost pet? Microchipping can help insure your pet is reunited with your family. Most vet office’s can assist in scanning an animal for a microchip. Don’t be fooled into thinking that you could easily locate your pet if they get lost. Animals can trek far distances in search of their families and change appearances based on outdoor conditions. These pets are entering a system already overwhelmed with surrendered, abused or neglected animals and a lost pet can easily go unnoticed. The American Humane society estimates nearly ten million pets are lost or stolen each year. Why become part of the statistics? A study published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, including 53 animal shelters across the U.S., confirmed the high rate of return of microchipped dogs and cats to their families, and the importance of microchip registration.

What is microchipping? Microchipping is a way to register your companion pet into a database to be accessed should that animal be lost. A microchip the size of a grain of rice is inserted under the animal’s skin by a special injector. This procedure can be done during vaccinations or routine check-up at your veterinarian office. The microchip is encoded with a number that is registered to the owner/rescue of that animal with specific contact information. A handheld scanner is used to search for a microchip which can be read by most veterinarians, animal control officials, etc. Microchips can migrate around an animals body which is why the entire body should be scanned. External tags placed on collars can be lost, removed or altered. Don’t be left without a way to reconnect with your pet should you be tragically separated. Microchipping provides an extra layer of comfort and hope. Talk to your veterinarian about microchipping today and remember to confirm the number has been added to a National database.

Wagging Hearts microchips every rescue with each adoption insuring that the lives we save always have someone looking out for them in all the days of their lives. Join us in microchipping to help keep our animals safe by insuring they always make it back home.

Whiskey, An Adventurous Soul

WhiskeyForeverHome_843x403

Meet Whiskey, a male, Coonhound/Pointer mix. Currently in foster looking for forever love. A sweet and handsome boy with a coat that just shines in the sun. Eyes soulful and deep, filled with mysteries of untold stories. Whiskey was saved from a high-kill shelter in Kentucky. He made the journey in early May and has been staying with his foster family in Northern Illinois. Unwinding and exploring life has all that has been on this boy’s mind. He enjoys the company of other dogs but cats seem to draw just a little too much attention from Whiskey. He is true to his breed characteristics and will need consistent exercise and rigorous activity to keep his active mind content. Nose to the ground or in the air to see what is near. Whiskey is always on alert and ever ready to call out with a series of bays when someone has arrived. Diligent and focused on his surroundings, Whiskey is just alight with joy for his surroundings. A little jumpy and learning his manners so a little understanding will be needed. An all-around joy to watch as seen in his latest video debut.

“A sweet, loving, energized-spirit in need of a home.”

Consider filling out an adoption application and to request a meet and greet with Whiskey. It won’t take long for you to see his charm and fall hard for those beautiful, shining eyes. Whiskey is just an application away.

Calling All Fosters …

WH_slider-foster

Wagging Hearts realizes that each and every foster home is a lifeline for our rescues. We would not be able to save the numbers of animals that connect with a forever home without our foster’s time, dedication, care and love. A rescue animal has usually been through quite a journey and may need some decompression and gentle love. Remember that companion animals develop deep and meaningful bonds with their families and they can become traumatized or despondent when they find themselves lost or abandoned. Fast forward to these lives adrift at a shelter filled with stress, noise, fear and usually death. This environment can temporarily affect our rescue animals and some may require a little extra TLC to shine brightly once more. That is where our foster homes becomes a lifeline as joy and happiness flood back into each animals heart and bodies. It is an amazing sight to watch how quickly an animal can rebound when shown kindness and a gentle touch. A foster makes an incredible difference in the life of each rescue. Each foster home is an extension of Wagging Hearts and the backbone which allows us to make such a difference in as many lives as we touch. We hope that you may want to be a part of our community and begin to share in the incredible experience of fostering.

Visit our FOSTER section today and to see whether fostering is right for you. If so, fill out a foster application today and join the Wagging Hearts Foster Community. We can’t wait to meet you!

Forever Homes Wrapped in Furever Love.

WH_slider-foreverhomes

The Impact of Forever Homes … is just immense. We could not do this without the support of our foster homes who provide love and care wrapped in a comfortable setting. Our animals experience positive nurturing, socialization and attention in their foster homes so they are ready and able to connect with furever love when it comes their way. Such as in the cases of Noodles, Casey Lane, Kiera, Max and Walter. All of these animals were rescued by Wagging Hearts when time was not on their side. Fading away into darkness and now because of four adopters and their families…they are thrust back into the light. This is what it is all about and with the continued support of our foster families and the community of animal lovers seeking to provide a rescue animal with a permanent home. This chain is delicate and could not be achieved without each crucial part acting as one; RESCUE to FOSTER to ADOPTION to FUREVER LOVE. Please share the powerful impact of adopting a rescue animal with family and friends. Let’s hope they have an opportunity to become a part of this delicate chain of life-saving events.

Thank you for being a part of their forever. We are grateful that you saw these beautiful spirits and acted on a desire to provide a forever home wrapped in furever love.

Consider changing the life of a rescue animal by providing some furever love today. Please take a moment to look at the animals of Wagging Hearts who are in need of permanent homes that they can fill with their love, joy and kisses. Find a face you connect with and fill out an adoption application to start the process. Don’t delay, visit our adoptables section so you can make that life-changing connection now.
